Happy Kansas Day! I hope and your family are off to a great new year. Jill and I certainly had a lot to celebrate at the end of 2013, but after a short break with family over the holidays, we're back hard at work on the campaign trail.
It's hard to believe, Election Day is just nine months away. Although we're only a few weeks in to 2014, we still have some exciting developments to report!
Here are a few campaign highlights:
- Davis/Docking report record fundraising numbers
- Republicans for Davis co-chairs named
- Exciting education endorsements
- Official response to 2014 State of the State
- On the road again
Historic Fundraising Numbers: Our most exciting news this month came with the filing of our 2013 finance report. In an unprecedented outpouring of support, we raised over $1 million in just four months. Jill and I are beginning the election year with more money raised than any gubernatorial challenger in Kansas history, and we nearly matched Sam Brownback's money raised in less than half the time. Thank you for helping us reach this important goal - it has created valuable momentum as we embark on the new year! Read more here
Republicans for Davis: Building on my commitment to be a governor with a bipartisan approach, I was thrilled to announce former Speaker of the House Wendell Lady of Overland Park, former State Representative Charlie Roth of Salina, and former State Representative Fred Gatlin of Atwood as the co-chairs of our newly launched Republicans for Davis. I have an 11-year record of working across the aisle to find moderate, commonsense solutions in the Kansas Legislature. The launch of Republicans for Davis is only the beginning - I want both Republicans and Independents to be an active part of my campaign and an active part of my administration should I be elected. Exciting Endorsements: Three days into the new year, Jill and I were proud to receive the endorsements of Kansas Families for Education and Kansas NEA. I am humbled and honored to have the support of Kansas parents and teachers who understand that high quality schools are the very foundation of a stronger economy. Read the full release here.
State of the State Response: The Legislature Reconvened on January 13th, followed by Governor Brownback's 2014 State of the State Address. I was proud to deliver the official response to the Governor's Address. Watch it by clicking the image below.
On the Road Again: Jill and I spent Martin Luther King Jr. weekend on the road, visiting Ark City, Winfield, Wellington, El Dorado, and Wichita. We remain encouraged by the enthusiasm and large crowds that are greeting us on the road. Kansans across the state are concerned about the direction we're headed under Sam Brownback, and they're ready to change direction. Keep checking our Facebook page for information about events coming near you!
As you can see, 2014 is off to a great start for the Davis/Docking team! We hope it is treating you equally well. I appreciate all you have done to help us so far and will continue to keep you updated as the campaign progresses. We certainly have a long road ahead, but I will not stop working until the final vote is cast.
